Abstract
Object)The authors performed the investigation to prepare basic data for future direction of policy making for community mental health.
Method) Data about demographic and psychiatric characteristics and social network systems of the home-resident mentally ill who lived in 7 districts of Seoul city and covered by Governmental Medical Security Program were gathered. The subjects(N=90) were divided into the outpatient group(N=52) and no-treatment group(N=38). The data were gathered by the home visiting of psychiatric registered nurses.
Results) 1. Most of the subjects were the 30¢¥s of age (38.9%) and the 20¢¥s were the smallest group(13.3%). This finding was different from others which studied inpatient groups.
2. There was no statistically significant difference between outpatient group and no-treatment group in demographic data.
3. The outpatient group had more experiences of hospitalization and more positive attitud( about the medication than no-treatment group. But there was no difference in the clinical diagnoses and experiences of non-medical facilities between two groups.
4. The outpatient group was more satisfied with present level of general support. But then were no statistically significant differences in major care-taker, number of family members, number of friends and frequency of social meetings between two groups.
5. The subjects had lowered level of social functioning and smaller social network size than general population. The family occupied the largest portion in total social network and this finding was similar to others.
